Claude vs ChatGPT: Which AI Should You Use for Business?

Claude vs ChatGPT: Which AI Should You Use for Business?

On Easter Sunday I sat at my computer for 13 hours straight and built the whole technical foundation of VIXA, my AI dating clarity app. No developer. No co-founder. No coding background. Just me and Claude. I have used ChatGPT for years too, so I know both tools from the inside.

So when women ask me "Claude vs ChatGPT, which one should I pay for?" I have a real answer, not a guess.

Here it is, short version: Claude is the better choice for writing in your own voice, long documents, building websites and apps, and deep business work. ChatGPT is the better choice for images, voice conversations, quick everyday questions and the biggest library of add-ons. Both cost

0 a month for the main paid plan, so the right pick depends on the work you do most.

I run 3 companies with AI. Below is exactly how they compare, where each one wins, and the simple split I use so I never waste time in the wrong tool.

Key takeaways

Claude vs ChatGPT: the quick answer for busy founders

If you only read 1 section, read this one.

Choose Claude if most of your day is writing, planning and building. Emails, blog posts, sales pages, contracts you want explained in plain English, strategy documents, websites and apps. Claude is my daily business partner. It is the tool I trust with the work that has my name on it.

Choose ChatGPT if most of your day is quick questions, visuals and talking out loud. Product mockups, social graphics, voice brainstorming in the car, and fast research on the go. It is the Swiss Army knife most people already have on their phone.

Here is the honest truth nobody selling a course will tell you: the tool matters less than how you ask. A great prompt in either one beats a lazy prompt in the "best" one. I will show you prompts that work in both, further down.

What is the difference between Claude and ChatGPT?

Both are AI assistants. You type (or talk), and they write, explain, plan, research and create with you. They are made by 2 different companies.

ChatGPT is made by OpenAI. It is the most used AI assistant in the world. TechCrunch reported in February 2026 that ChatGPT reached 900 million weekly users, with 50 million people paying for it.

Claude is made by Anthropic. It is smaller in users, but it has a reputation with writers, developers and business owners for clear thinking and natural writing. Claude is also behind Claude Code, the coding tool I used to build VIXA.

Think of it this way. ChatGPT is the big, busy department store that has a little of everything. Claude is the boutique where the tailoring is better.

Claude vs ChatGPT price: what 0 a month gets you

Good news first: you do not have to pay to try either one. Both have free plans.

!Claude vs ChatGPT side by side: both main paid plans cost 0 a month. Claude leads on writing in your voice, long documents and building apps. ChatGPT leads on images, voice and everyday quick answers.

Here is how the main plans line up, based on the official Claude pricing page and the official ChatGPT pricing page:

| Plan | Claude | ChatGPT | |---|---|---| | Free | $0, with web search, memory, file creation and projects | $0, with limited messages, uploads and voice | | Lower cost paid plan | None | ChatGPT Go, which may include ads | | Main paid plan | Claude Pro, 0 a month (

7 a month billed yearly) | ChatGPT Plus,
0 a month | | Power user plan | Claude Max, from
00 a month | ChatGPT Pro, more usage at a higher price |

My advice: start on the free plan of both for 1 week. Run the same 3 real tasks from your business through each one. Then pay for the one that saved you more time. That is a

0 decision, not a forever decision. You can switch any month.

Which is better for writing: Claude or ChatGPT?

For business writing, Claude wins for me, and it is not close.

Here is why. Claude's first drafts sound more like a real person. Fewer "I hope this email finds you well" lines. Fewer words that scream AI. When I give Claude 3 examples of my writing, it picks up my rhythm fast: short sentences, direct, warm.

ChatGPT writes well too. It is faster at short, punchy things like captions and headline ideas. But on longer pieces, I spend more time editing it back into my voice.

1 important note: I write my blog posts myself and use AI to edit, tighten and fact check. That is the right way to use either tool. You bring the real stories and opinions. AI helps you say them clearly.

If your writing comes out stiff in any tool, read my guide on how to use AI without sounding like AI. It works in both.

Try this prompt in both tools and compare the results yourself:

You are my writing partner. Here are 3 real things I wrote, so you can learn my voice: [paste 3 short samples]
Now write a [email / post / product description] about [topic] for [who is reading].
Rules:
- Sound like my samples, not like an AI.
- Short sentences. Everyday words.
- No phrases like "in today's fast-paced world" or "I hope this finds you well."
- If you are unsure about a fact, write [CHECK THIS] instead of guessing.

Which is better for building websites, apps and tools?

Claude. This is where it changed my life.

I am not a developer, and I do not have a computer science degree. Claude designed the layout of VIXA, then HAVENLY, then this blog. Then Claude Code helped me build the real app infrastructure in 1 very long day.

Claude can also build small working tools right inside the chat: a pricing calculator, a content calendar, a simple dashboard. You describe it in plain English, and you get something you can click and use.

ChatGPT can write code too, and many developers use it daily. But for a non-technical founder who wants to describe an idea and see it come to life, Claude has been the better teacher and builder for me.

If you want to go deeper, I walk through it in how to create an AI agent with Claude to run your business.

Which is better for images and voice?

ChatGPT, clearly.

ChatGPT can create images right in the chat. Product mockups, social graphics, mood boards, a quick visual for a pitch. Claude does not create photo-style images. It can build diagrams, charts and designed pages, which is great for business, but not the same thing.

ChatGPT's voice mode is also more polished. It is great for brainstorming out loud when you are away from your desk. You talk, it talks back, and you end up with a list of ideas without typing a word.

So if your business lives on visuals, like a product brand that needs mockups every week, ChatGPT earns its place.

Which is better for research and long documents?

Both can search the web and read files you upload. Here is where I see the difference:

My rule for both: AI drafts, a human decides. Never sign a contract, quote a price or share a stat because AI said so. Check the source. AI can sound confident and still be wrong.

Here is a prompt I use with any long document, in either tool:

I am a founder, not a lawyer. Read this document and give me:
1. A 5 line summary in plain English.
2. Every money amount, deadline and promise I would be agreeing to.
3. The 3 parts I should ask a professional about before signing.
Quote the exact line for each point so I can find it.
Document: [paste or upload]

Which is better for marketing and social media?

This one is closer than people think, so here is how I would split it.

Claude is better for the thinking part of marketing. Your brand voice guide. Your launch plan. A 30 day content calendar where every post connects to 1 goal. Long sales pages and email sequences that need to sound like a real person who cares. Give Claude your audience, your offer and 3 posts you loved, and the plan it builds is usually sharper and more strategic.

ChatGPT is better for the visual and volume part. Quick caption variations. 20 hook ideas in 10 seconds. A mockup of your product on a bathroom counter. A graphic for tonight's story. When you need a lot of options fast, it is hard to beat.

Here is a prompt I like for content planning. It works in both, but try it in Claude first:

You are my content strategist. My business: [what you sell and who buys it].
My goal this month: [1 clear goal, like 100 new email signups].
Plan 12 social posts for the next 4 weeks.
For each post give me: the hook (first line), the main point in 2 sentences, and the call to action.
Every post must move people toward my goal. No generic motivation posts.

Then take the 3 best hooks into ChatGPT and ask it for a matching image idea for each one. That is both tools doing what they do best, in about 15 minutes.

5 mistakes founders make when choosing an AI tool

I see these all the time in comments and DMs. Avoid them and you will get more from whichever tool you pick.

  1. Paying for both before using either well. $40 a month on 2 tools you barely use is worse than 0 on 1 tool you use every day. Master 1 first.
  2. Judging a tool by 1 bad answer. If the answer was weak, the question was usually weak. Add context: who you are, who it is for, what good looks like.
  3. Starting every chat from zero. Save your business details once in a project or custom instructions. You will stop re-explaining your brand every morning.
  4. Trusting numbers without checking. Both tools can mix up facts. Click the sources, especially for prices, laws and stats.
  5. Letting AI replace your voice. Your stories, opinions and real numbers are what make people trust you. AI should make you clearer, not make you sound like everyone else.

The surprising difference most people miss: ads

Here is something most "Claude vs ChatGPT" comparisons skip.

In January 2026, OpenAI announced it would start testing ads in ChatGPT for free and Go users in the United States. A few weeks later, Anthropic promised that Claude will stay ad-free, with no sponsored links and no advertiser influence in its answers. It even poked fun at AI ads in a Super Bowl commercial plan.

Why should a founder care? Because you are pasting your business into these chats. Your pricing, your plans, your customer questions. I like knowing the tool I think with is not also selling to me. If you use ChatGPT, the paid Plus plan and up are not part of the ad test.

1 more privacy habit for both tools: remove personal details you do not need, like phone numbers, addresses and account numbers, before you paste anything in. And check each tool's privacy settings so you know how your chats are stored.

Claude vs ChatGPT: the full side by side

| What you need | Winner | Why | |---|---|---| | Writing in your voice | Claude | More natural first drafts, less editing | | Long documents and contracts | Claude | Careful, clear explanations | | Building websites and apps | Claude | Plain English to working pages and tools | | Images and mockups | ChatGPT | Creates images right in the chat | | Voice brainstorming | ChatGPT | More polished voice mode | | Quick everyday questions | ChatGPT | Fast, familiar, on every phone | | No ads | Claude | Anthropic promised Claude stays ad-free | | Price of main plan | Tie | Both 0 a month |

How to use Claude and ChatGPT together

You do not have to pick a side forever. Here is the split I recommend to every founder who asks me:

  1. Claude for the work with your name on it. This is how I use it every day: blog edits, emails to creators, strategy plans for VIXA, HAVENLY and LUMAPROMPT.AI, website pages and app building.
  2. ChatGPT for visuals and quick questions. A fast mockup, a mood board for a product idea, or a quick answer when you are away from your desk.
  3. 1 home for your business brain. Save your brand voice, prices, links and rules inside a Claude project, so every chat already knows your business. ChatGPT has projects and custom instructions that work the same way.
  4. 1 rule for both: check every fact, every number and every promise before anything goes public.

If you are only paying for 1 tool right now, that is smart. Start with the one that matches your biggest daily task. Add the second only when a real task keeps coming up that your first tool cannot do well.

Your 7 day Claude vs ChatGPT test

Do not take my word for it. Run this test with your own work:

  1. Day 1: Sign up for the free plan of both.
  2. Day 2: Paste the same writing prompt (above) into both. Which sounds more like you?
  3. Day 3: Upload the same long document to both. Which explanation is clearer?
  4. Day 4: Ask both to plan your week around your top 3 goals.
  5. Day 5: Ask both for a product mockup or social graphic idea.
  6. Day 6: Use voice mode in both for a 5 minute brainstorm.
  7. Day 7: Count which tool saved you more time. Pay for that one.

Want both tools to give you sharper answers right away? My guide on how to ask ChatGPT better questions works the same way in Claude. And if you sell anything online, my system for using AI to answer customer emails is a great first project for either one.
